Diarize This!

If you’re looking for something to do tomorrow night (April 2nd), why not pop down to the Gladstone Hotel  between 8pm and midnight for the SpeakEasy Craft Show. SpeakEasy is a monthly gathering of Toronto’s creative community. It’s an opportunity to network, share ideas, and keep in touch with the pulse of Toronto’s creative professionals. Since 1996 it has grown from a get-together of a few friends to an event that now draws regular crowds of up to 300. Tomorrow nights’ craft show is notorious for bringing together Crafters, Artists and Designers in a unique venue to share their creations with the community. The vendors are chosen for their individual style, quality and originality of design.

Some of the featured artists include Rae Brenne, Cake Fashion, MisFitChic, Brit Boutique, Kuku Caju,  and S’up Cuz T-shirts to name a few.

So if you’re not busy sewing up your own creations or taking a Sewing Studio class, you might want to drop in for a beverage or two and have a look at what the creative minds of Toronto are producing. See you there!

Diva Day, our online community, and TORONTO SUMMER FASHION CAMPS!!

Monday again. And it being March means warm weather’s around the corner, right??

The Sewing Studio had a great weekend. We were at Diva Day yesterday with a vendor booth letting everyone know about our great classes, sewing parties, and summer camps (more on that shortly). The event raises money for Jewish Women International of Canada (JWIC), an organization that aims to stop violence against women.

We also had a chat this weekend with our superstar web designer, James, of Alavri Web Design. He’s hard at work on our new website extension that will make the most of this online community. We’re working on SEWING CLASSES ONLINE (!!)that anyone can stream from their computer. And to go along with that, we’ll have more of these blogs, groups, forums, etc. Stay tuned for that….

AND…. THE BIG NEWS…..

We’ve also got AMAZING summer camps planned for this year in both Toronto and Pickering. A teen fashion camp as well as a kids teddy bear camp. A full PDF with details will be available at lovesewing.com soon, but here’s the sneak peek:

Teddy Bear Fashion Wear
(ages 8-13)
Kids learn basic hand- and machine-sewing skills while they make two of their own teddy bears and custom adornments including clothes, accessories, and sleepover necessities! Kids celebrate their unique creations at the end of the week with informal teddy presentations as well as a teddy bear picnic! Teddy Bear Fashion Wear runs from 9am – 12pm or 12:30pm – 3:30pm Monday to Friday in four different sessions this summer. Fashion Runway Week
(ages 12-15 or 15-18+)
Fashion-savvy teens go through the process of taking a garment from conceptualization to creation. In addition to learning various sewing skills and fashion illustration techniques, students get hands-on time with industry professionals who teach them the basics of fashion design, logo design, and fashion styling. This camp is a must for anyone with interest in the fashion industry! Fashion Runway Week runs from 9am – 3pm Monday to Friday in four different sessions this summer. Campers bring their own lunch and we provide a daily snack. $425 including gst.

Denise — Founder & Managing Director

p.s. The video footage from our charity mission to Ghana is still on its way. Our camcorder battery died this weekend while I was trying to transfer it again, and now guess what? We can’t find the camera charger! I think I left it in Ghana!! ah. Anyway, it’ll now be a while before we have the video footage. We’re going to turn the house inside out to try finding it. Or if it WAS left behind, I’ll have to track down a new one.

Here’s a shot of me at Diva Day showing off some of the crafty things kids have made at The Sewing Studio in our Kids After School program.

177 and Counting …

Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to our t-shirt charity mission to Ghana! We collected t-shirts from our students and community and managed to collect over 177 gently worn and used t-shirts to distribute to the children and youth in villages across Ghana.

Below are a couple of pics of the suitcases, YES – SUITCASES, Denise took prior to leaving for Ghana.

Thanks again … we really appreciate your support!
