Prints for Spring 2009!

Make a statement!

Incorporate bold prints into your spring sewing projects.  Cool tropical prints are in, perfect for a long sundress. Polka dots are making a come back! I would try it in a high waist pencil skirt with a tone on tone polka dot print. Zebra prints (my favorite) will also be big.

To me there is nothing you can’t do in Zebra. Mix it up! Try thicker, wider stripes for large pieces like dresses or skirts, and use thinner, closer stripes for a cute handbag or headband.

Water color inspired prints, girly floral patterns and big tribal inspired geometric prints will also be big!

Happy sewing!

Spring Colour Report

Regardless of the snow in our yards, when it comes to fashion spring will be here sooner then you know it.

If you are like me and like to “plan ahead” where your wardrobe is concerned, this is a great time to start searching the fabric stores and using the “in” colors for Spring ’09 for your personal sewing ventures.

I looked up the Pantones Fashion Color Report and we have a very nice selection of colors ahead for us. We should be seeing colors like Fuchsia-Red (…think D.I.Y tote bag), Super Lemon (…think cute spring top), Lavender and Rose Dust (…think pretty spring dress) and an assortment of dusty greens and punchy blues.

The colors are very feminine and delicate with a few bold accents.  You will have a nice selection of colour choices if you plan on tackling a large scale spring project like a spring dress with ruffle detail. Visit www.pantone.com/spring2009 for more information.
