My Pretty Pinafore!
It has to be said – I am the least adept at sewing of all the staff at The Sewing Studio. HOWEVER … I’m slowly learning … slowly.
While I don’t have any daughters … I did complete my very first dress for a baby girl. I did. And I am so proud of myself.
I didn’t ask any of the other girls at The Studio for help. I worked through it, reading and re-reading and reading once more the instructions. I figured out how to make bias taps strips for the arm and neckhole. I trimmed and cut and stitched and took my time.
It’s the simplest of dresses, but in this pretty fabric, I think it makes me look better than I am as a sewist. Check it out!!!
BY THE WAY – I’m not a photographer. Yes, the dress is even on both sides despite how it looks in the pictures! Ha ha!

Get hip. Get Sewing!
What a great way to end the week!
The Sewing Studio was mentioned in The Toronto Star just yesterday (April 16, 2009) in a piece about how sewing classes are becoming increasingly popular these days. At TSS, we definitely see that trend, in fact, our current session for March 2009 filled up so fast, we had to add classes to handle the overflow.; and our newest class, Quick Start: House ‘n’ Home, just launched this session and filled up in record time. You requested, and we delivered!
So, sewing is IN! To read more from this article and this growing trend, click here.
We definitely want to keep offering you guys the classes you love and the skills you are dying to learn. Please visit our site, www.lovesewing.com, for the different classes we have to offer: from one-day workshops, to weeklies, to five-day intensive bootcamps. Check out our schedule for our classes and start dates and get on the haute trend.
We hope to see you at The Sewing Studio for the next session which begins the week of May 11, 2009!

Our new session begins the Week of March 16, 2009!
Our current session is winding down and in just a few weeks our next session will begin. Starting March 16, 2009 we will have a new set of classes available for your to get your sew on!
If you are a beginner, take part in our Introductory Sewing course. Definitely our most intensive course, you will learn to make a zippered pouch, a drawstring bag, AND a skirt from a commercial pattern. Take this course and you will be making your own clothes in no time! This is our longest course, which runs for 8 classes, 2 hours a class, 1 class per week.
8 weeks to much of a time commitment? Then join our Quick Start class. It’s our Intro course shortened to 4 classes, but you still learn the basics and still make a skirt from a commercial pattern. If fashion isn’t your thing, we also offer this program with a home decor twist – Quick Start: House ‘n’ Home!
Already know how to sew? Well, we always have intermediate classes available! Try our Sewing PLUS class where you can work on a project of your choice, and at your own pace, while having the guidance of an instructor available to you!
Can find the time to commitment to a weekly class. Then see what we got for 1 day workshops. Workshops are scheduled the last Sunday of every month and are only 3 hours in length. You can alter clothes, make clothes for your pet OR sew some new pillows for your home. In March we will be running our Serger Basics workshop – learn to use, thread, and maintain your serger!
We have so many classes to offer. Please visit http://www.lovesewing.com for more information!

Hey Everyone!
Did you catch Denise on the Steven & Chris Show? She provided the show’s audience and viewers with several great tips on what to look for when purchasing a sewing machine. If you missed it, not to worry, here is a link to the show.

177 and Counting …
Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to our t-shirt charity mission to Ghana! We collected t-shirts from our students and community and managed to collect over 177 gently worn and used t-shirts to distribute to the children and youth in villages across Ghana.
Below are a couple of pics of the suitcases, YES – SUITCASES, Denise took prior to leaving for Ghana.
Thanks again … we really appreciate your support!
