Lights! Camera! Fashion! Camp Photos

One of our favourite things this summer has been camps. Each week we have new groups of kids and teens coming in and wowing us with their skills and creativity. In the Lights! Camera! Fashion! camp, our your fashionistas took plain old men’s shirts (stolen from Dad’s closet — sorry, Dad!) and turned them into super-cute dresses and vests. On their last day in the studio we took photos of them in their new garments, holding totes they made earlier in the week, and put them on magazine covers!

Here is a picture of the girls at work:

Check out all the photos from the round of sewing camp here.
There is one more session of Lights! Camera! Fashion! running this summer. It begins Monday. Email us to reserve your spot!

At The Sewing Studio this week we’re all about camps. We’re running our first session of summer’s Fashion Runway Week today until Friday with students from The York School, a private school in Toronto. In addition to learning to sew, students will turn an existing garment into their own piece of haute couture. They’ll learn fashion illustration, how to design a logo and hang tag, how to style an outfit, and all the while they’ll hear from industry pros including Jessica Biffi of Project Runway Canada, Anna Lisa Sang of Flare, Fashion, House & Home, and LouLou, and Janette Ewen of CityLine and Globe & Mail. Sounds amazing, don’t you think?
We’ll keep you posted on the camp. In the meantime, there’s still room in the summer versions of Fashion Runway Week! Register now and see full details by downloading our summer camp PDF.
In addition to Fashion Runway Week for tweens and teens, we’ve got Teddy Bear Week for young creatives ages 8-13. AND…. we’re adding a new camp to the roster: Lights! Camera! Fashion! Stay tuned for news on that. Students ages 8-14 will re-work a pair of jeans into a fashionable bag and a parent’s button-down shirt into a dress. On the last day of the camp, we’re bringing in a professional makeup artist for a photoshoot, and each student will leave with their very own personalized magazine cover!
So as you can see, we’ve got camp fever here at The Sewing Studio. Summer’s on its way……
Happy Sewing!

Don’t forget to channel your inner bride at our Bride-to-Be course. Loads of lace and all things white. Who can resist? It starts in just under two weeks.

If you didn’t get our March newsletter that went out last week with the Hello-Kitty-everywhere baby room, let us know. Or you can join the newsletter by sending an email to newsletter@lovesewing.com. Doesn’t this pic just make you squeal with glee???

See you soon!

Diva Day, our online community, and TORONTO SUMMER FASHION CAMPS!!
Monday again. And it being March means warm weather’s around the corner, right??
The Sewing Studio had a great weekend. We were at Diva Day yesterday with a vendor booth letting everyone know about our great classes, sewing parties, and summer camps (more on that shortly). The event raises money for Jewish Women International of Canada (JWIC), an organization that aims to stop violence against women.
We also had a chat this weekend with our superstar web designer, James, of Alavri Web Design. He’s hard at work on our new website extension that will make the most of this online community. We’re working on SEWING CLASSES ONLINE (!!)that anyone can stream from their computer. And to go along with that, we’ll have more of these blogs, groups, forums, etc. Stay tuned for that….
AND…. THE BIG NEWS…..

p.s. The video footage from our charity mission to Ghana is still on its way. Our camcorder battery died this weekend while I was trying to transfer it again, and now guess what? We can’t find the camera charger! I think I left it in Ghana!! ah. Anyway, it’ll now be a while before we have the video footage. We’re going to turn the house inside out to try finding it. Or if it WAS left behind, I’ll have to track down a new one.
Here’s a shot of me at Diva Day showing off some of the crafty things kids have made at The Sewing Studio in our Kids After School program.
